Most places in the world experience some kind of winter weather – cold, snow, ice, gray skies, etc. – and it’s straight science that the effect of months filled with those elements can be negative for our outlooks and energies.
In 2020, OADSP developed a solution: our Beat the Winter Blues series (BTWB). Over the course of January, February, March, and – when needed – April, we offer activities and happenings meant to break up the monotony of the chilly, dreary winter days (sorry, southern hemisphere!). We’ve been to Florida, where we cooked with ARC Broward in its Emeril Lagasse Foundation Innovation Kitchen, and then streamed the show for a cook-along with everyone back home. We’ve had virtual dance parties, when we boogied away some excess winter insulation. We also had a cozy afternoon with Open Door Art Studio & Gallery and streamed a live “Canvas & Cocoa” painting session. In 2023, we road-tripped to Music City, USA, with February’s DASH TO NASHVILLE, and in 2024, we splashed around in the waterpark during the Kalahari Escapade.
Need a go-to winter activity? Add OADSP and Scene75’s DSP DAYS to your calendar!
Or maybe head to the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium! Or enjoy COSI’s Family Access membership!
Contact us if you have an idea for a stand-alone activity, or a series, or just want to get on the BTWB emailing list. Nearly all of these events are meant for anyone – DSPs and the individuals they support, family members, other staff, etc. And anyone who’s attended a BTWB event will tell you that, for at least a little bit, we did, in fact, beat the winter blues!
